We raise voices on behalf of the innocent animals. We are strong advocates of animal welfare. Founded in September 2019 K.A.R.E. FOUNDATION is engaged in all aspects of animal welfare in & around Kolhapur City.
To operate in a greater capacity, we aim to launch more services at our center with an in-house Sterilization unit, expansion of the current building, getting comfy beds for the animals, building a swimming tank, and much more. Sterilization involves the spaying of females and castration of male dogs so that they do not reproduce and their population becomes stable. Vaccination involves giving the dogs an anti-rabies shot. As they are vaccinated against Rabies and other diseases they do not pose any health hazards and live out their natural lives healthily and harmlessly.

Sterilising and vaccinating the dogs who live in our communities (compassionately referred to as “community dogs”) effectively and humanely controls their population, prevents rabies in both dogs and humans, and reduces human-dog conflicts.
No new pups will be born which will allow the population to stabilize. Vaccination against rabies eliminates the danger from the disease negligible. Sterilized dogs will mean that there will not be fighting or mating during the heat season. With no litters to protect, female dogs will not be aggressive. Minus the strain of pregnancy, female dogs will remain healthier. The existing dog population will be familiar, friendly, healthy and harmless. Sterilized dogs do not get into fights and injure each other during the mating season. As residents no longer ill-treat dogs, the dogs do not feel threatened and are friendly and harmless
Each dog is given a seven-in-one vaccination before sterilisation. Stringent hygienic procedures are followed to ensure the safety of each dog. Great attention is paid to post-operative care. To sterilize the maximum number of dogs in an area, we make contact with street - dwellers and slum - dwellers and persuade them to have their dogs neutered by us. We encourage the public to get involved in the programme. For instance, we meet citizen's groups and ask them to have their neighbourhood dogs sterilized by us.
We follow the guidelines of the World Health Organisation and the Animal Welfare Board of India (Ministry of Environment & Forests). Street dogs are caught by the catching staff by the sack-and-loop method. Dogs who are in good condition are then surgically neutered by qualified and experienced veterinary surgeons. Ovario-hysterectomy is performed on the females and castration on the males. We believe that animal care should follow very high standards, therefore a lot of emphasis is placed on hygiene and cleanliness. The operated dogs are kept for a period of 4 days, until they are completely healed.
